Sara Gilbert serves as executive producer of THE TALK, CBS’ Daytime Emmy Award-winning talk show that examines topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of five female hosts. Previously, she hosted the show alongside Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. Gilbert won the Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Hosts Daytime Emmy for the first time in 2017.
Gilbert endeared herself to millions of television viewers with her portrayal of the sarcastic yet loveable Darlene Conner on the long-running hit series “Roseanne,” a role which garnered her two Emmy nominations, among numerous other accolades. In 2018 she reprised her role as Darlene in the series revival, and has continued in her role as both Darlene and executive producer in the series’ spin-off, “The Conners.”
Gilbert’s extensive list of television credits includes roles on THE BIG BANG THEORY, “Bad Teacher,” “Welcome to New York” and “The Class,” all on the Network. Also she appeared on “The Comeback,” “Web Therapy,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “ER,” “Will & Grace” and “24.”
Her film credits include “Riding in Cars with Boys” directed by Penny Marshall, “Poison Ivy” with co-star Drew Barrymore, for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination, “Desert Blue” opposite Kate Hudson, “Light It Up” opposite Forest Whitaker, “The Big Tease,” and “High Fidelity” opposite John Cusack.
Gilbert made her directorial debut with the critically acclaimed short film “Persona Non Grata.” The film was executive produced by the Shooting Gallery and selected for the 1998 Sundance Film Festival.
An accomplished stage actress, Gilbert’s credits include the off-Broadway play “The Exonerated,” an appearance in the world premiere of Gray Stewart’s play, “Downwinder Dance,” in Ohio, and a starring role in the Williamstown Theater Festival production of “The Hot L Baltimore.”
A magna cum laude graduate of Yale University with a degree in art, Gilbert’s concentration was in photography. Her work has been exhibited in New York City at the Paul Morris Gallery, as well as at the Deutsche Guggenheim Museum in Berlin during the summer of 2008. She lives in Los Angeles with her family.
